POETRY: The Luddite Watches

The state of surveillance, the surveillance state
Cameras flashing and filming everywhere
Microphones recording everything from car horns to intimate moans
Drones above head, all the data mined is sold
Now there are ads for new vehicles and sex toys
This is the new world where nothing is private
All should be known by all

There are no secrets that will enthrall
There is nothing confidential, no clandestine climate
Privacy destroyed!
There is no hiding place from the eyes of control
There is no recourse for our groans
We will be watched, "for our care"
No debate

Lenses will not be the only watchful eyes
The luddite watches from behind the blinds
Waiting to tell, to disclose
All that has been unsanctioned, what is unwarranted
Willing and unsanctioned agents of the state, tough
A pat on the head is payment intently
Scared of their skeletons being exposed

The luddite is not technology opposed
They use and adopt it all, instantly!
The luddite does not want their life to be rough
So all of the actions of their neighbors, to authority forwarded
Against the technocrat they will never be deposed
The luddite will only testify to their class' crimes
For who they volunteer, their crimes denied

The luddite watches more than the lenses on your tv and computer
The luddite listens more than the microphones in your washer and refrigerator
The luddite is the most wanted viewer
The luddite will be the greatest privacy invader
