Shaun Alexander was released by the Seahawks today. The team releasing him is sorta bittersweet for me. Shaun was so great for so many years but for the last two seasons, well mainly last season, he just made me want to explode. It seems to me (and the rest of NFL) that he's in the twilight of his career. The Seahawks still have a great chance of winning a Super Bowl and they needed to get younger and more powerful at the Running Back position. He was a great player and still can be a great player. Number 37 is one of the greatest Seahawks of all-time and I'm pretty sure the Hall of Fame will be calling his name but during the last two NFL seasons (I reiterate, especially last season) he was the reason the 'hawks weren't as strong as they should have been. If he was just a glimpse of the 2005 Shaun Alexander, his MVP season, if he would have at least rushed for his career staples of at least 15 touchdowns and at least 1,200 yards it would have been a different season and the Seahawks probably would have been playing in the oh so familiar University of Phoenix stadium for the Lombardi trophy. I wish him the best in all that he does. Hope he lands with a good team, stays healthy, and revives his career. Thanks for all the good times Shaun!
