Your Past Made You

Your past made you who you are today
Earlier in the week you were saddened by something
By mid week you threw a few smiles a few ways
Yesterday it was back to feeling nothing

I see it in your eyes that you are not feeling
Blankly, you stare and stare that detached stare
Not thinking forwards or backwards or here, just dealing
I do not think I can say that you do not care

Where you are now, came from somewhere
That dirt you washed has already stained
You were who you are and it is fair
You made your rules, your empty heart you maintained

As a kid you just stood there looking dumb
You stood there angry and did not understand why
And that is where your mind still comes from
You are an idiot and furious and manage to survive

Something happened in your youth
Because as a defined adult not acclimated
You are listless and a brute
What ordered in you a heartlessness mandated?

Your past made you who you are today
Some of the things you think you are not
Are restrained by what you have to say
Even if what you have thought or said is wrought

When you juxtapose your thoughts with what you do and did
You did what your heart never knew
The pleasures you hid
In the depths of your mind to the surface grew

The agony and the suffering that you experienced
Has engulfed your being and tortured you
What was done to you only incensed
A dormant rage mulling true

What in your past made you this person today?
What happened in your youth?
You are a despicable man in every way
Morality you loot

You want to know what happened to me?
Why this man came to be?
Nothing in my past has left me torn
I was just born
