In the 21st century
A great American writer wrote something...
It was moving and characterized all
Humanity forever will be
His stark prose was alarming
Impactful and only told the truth
Prophetic it was
In 2013 he bravely wrote
"Darkness isn't a phase.
It's the latest craze...
Set these days ablaze."
And humanity did, they listened
His work was scathing and scolding
Turning each page intensely singed you
Your hands burning but pages turning
He said that society would crumble
That our souls had been fried
Humanity would forever be in trouble
He decried "Hope isn't ours.
It certainly isn't mine.
It's long gone and left with our spine"
The universe he wrote
Was cynical true
But it was what his brutal honesty knew
The universe closed its vast eyes
And regressed, devolved
And darkness stayed
In every heart alive
Misery unsolved
And happiness broke
And for centuries his proclamation,
"Recognize what you read.
And what you view and digest.
It may become your likeness"
was lived.
