The New Year Knew Me, Resolved, I Am "Different," and Your Child's Future Still

The New Year Knew Me

    2013 knew me
    The same as 2012
    2011 predicted I would be
    Who I was when 2010 did end
    2009 thought I would change for sure
6   But when it did begin
    It knew me just as 2008 did
    2007 and 2006
    Had hope that my flaws they'd fix
    But they soon learned
    Just like 2005 and 2004
12  That changing me is a chore
    The year 2014 soon will discover
    That it will fail to change me
    Just like all of the others

Resolved

    I gave up on New Years Resolutions a long time ago

    The end of the year should not determine when I change

    And all those who oppose

    That thinking, I think, are simply deranged

    While I don't promise myself metamorphosis

6  I do like to engage in reflection

    Yes, reflection is something I highly endorse and can't resist

    Last year had trials from which I am still trying to find protection

    So January 1st can't be a clean slate

    To think that way is dumb

    Last year I judged a lot of peoples' fate

12 Something I continue to do, it's fun

    I can't help but to do so, it's incredible

    How I do so with so much blithe

    And with a grand sapience full

    Causes a delightful fright

    I've watched my relationships wither

18 But the loss of some family and friends

      Will not allow my resolve to dither

    Something my judgment cannot recommend

    Is abjuring that I know who I am and what I have become

    But what I know and what I believe

    Is that my thoughts may change some

24 Still, I will not ask for any reprieve

    I know that in the new year promises are made

    Reading more, working out and being more charitable and nice

    Eating better and less, curbing your opinion, more money saved

    All things I should strive for and might

    But what I have learned in 28 New Years Eves

30 Is that when attempting a new beginning

    The chaotic nature of life derails, and need

    Always ends up winning

    Even though I judge you for trying now

    Keep trying, try and try and try and try

    And when misrule is allowed

36 Your effort no one, not me, not anyone can deny
    My foibles, I will fix differently, if I have any

    But if your resolve lies in dates, remember there are many

I Am "Different"

  I am the greatest artist
  The world has ever seen or known
  I do what I want and express myself
  How I feel I should
  And you all love it
6 It doesn't matter what I say or do
  You'll eat it up, you will chew
  I am the greatest artist to ever exist
  And of that I am undoubtedly proud
  Even though artlessly and honestly
  I just appease the crowd
