Uber Tales #1: Back Alley Braces
I haven't been driving for Uber that long but in my minimal experience it only confirms the universal truth that the universe is chaos.
I was offered black market braces. Not braces for knees or arms or limbs or bodies but braces for teeth.
"They...they normally cost $5,000 dollars but I can do it for $1,500. That's cheap right? You see... no one appreciates anything... I... I... don't know if you appreciate things but I appreciate things.... Can you stop somewhere? Like is it possible? I know we have a destination but can you go to a different destination then go to the original destination?"
Those weren't his exact words. But I assume I can quote him as saying that because he's nameless. More importantly than that, I was offered black market braces.
"Do you know anyone who needs braces or wants braces? Think about it, people spend $5,000 even $6,000 on braces. I can do it for $1,500. You don't know anyone who needs braces? Do you know anyone who has ever had braces?"
"I never really talk to anyone I know about their teeth but I can ask around. Do people actually go to you? You actually put the braces in?"
"Yeah I do! The dentist doesn't do anything. We do everything and then the dentist comes and checks on it. I have put in many braces. The dentist just checks up on the job I've done. He makes $1,200 a day. Can you imagine what you could do with $1,200 dollars a day? ... If anyone you know needs braces..."
