Media Control, Representation, and Compartmentalization

"It is only through the way in which we represent and imagine ourselves that we come to know how we are constituted and who we are. There is no escape from the politics of representation, and we cannot wield “how life really is out there” as a kind of text against which the political rightness or wrongness of a particular cultural strategy or text can be measured." - Stuart Hall

It is important to make sure that we place concepts, ideas, events, EVERYTHING into its proper place. 

HOW QUICKLY CAN THE MEDIA CONTROL THE MINDS OF THE MASSES?

In Noam Chomsky's Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda he opens with a brief history of modern propaganda, he uses the Committee of Public Information as an example of how the government and the media work hand in hand in cultivating the mores of American society. The  Committee of Public Information or as Chomsky refers to them, The Creel Commission, used propaganda to garner public support for US entry into World War I. Chomsky writes, "They [US Government] established a government propaganda commission, called the Creel Commission, which succeeded, within six months, in turning a pacifist population into a hysterical, war-mongering population which wanted to destroy everything German, tear the Germans limb from limb, go to war to save the world" (11-12). 

The Creel Commission used images and a very corrupt (familiar) depiction of Germans to enrage the population to support the United States government's want to enter the Great War. I personally believe that, although the Irish, Italians, Germans, and other white races throughout history have been compared to apes, regardless of the ruler, they used the ape because they knew that in an Anti-Black society's corrupt psyche they would subconsciously, almost automatically associate the Germans with black people. 

Moreover, the United States has a history of Anti-German sentiment, Benjamin Franklin writes about immigration, in his letter to Peter Collinson a friend and botanist, “[T]he Spaniards, Italians, French, Russians and Swedes, are generally of what we call a swarthy Complexion; as are the Germans also, the Saxons only excepted.” Benjamin Franklin a Saxon, I surmise. The word swarthy according to the Oxford English Dictionary means, "a) Of a dark hue; black or blackish; dusky. b) of or in reference to the complexion c) figurative. ‘Black’, ‘dark’, malignant, dismal." So I believe it isn't a stretch that the society was actually comparing Germans to apes because they recognize that a lot of Germans and other Europeans that migrated to the United States were actually what would become "Black." Europe has not always been completely "White" in fact, "Blacks" have ruled all over what is known now as Europe for centuries. In fact, the vaunted, the incomparable, the prolific, and arguably most influential poet in any language because of his conception of "Hell" alone (Milton owns the greatest conception of Hell's proprietor, so whose greater?), Dante Alighieri was expelled from Florence, Italy by "Blacks" and never returned. 

Many blacks were migrating to the US during the mid 18th century because Europe was beginning to become very hostile to their "Black" populations. That is why in his letter Franklin began to speak about genetics and how "White" could breed the "Black" out of the population. That idea would change over the centuries, as whites began to understand blackness as a pollutant. The only reason Franklin did not use the words black or negro was because he was born in a society that had not codified those distinctions. Franklin wrote his letter a few decades before Thomas Jefferson wrote the words "white supremacy." This also alludes to why many European migrants were ostracized in this nation.

The government does not have to be directly involved in the propaganda. It supports and suborns movements that push certain propaganda on society. Similarly to the country being essentially pacifist before the Creel Commission, the country was staunchly anti-abortion before Roe versus Wade. How the US became a nation that allowed Pro-Choice was because of the same tactic of demonizing a group of people to garner public support. Jane Roe or Norma McCorvey, lied about being raped by a group of "Black" men (Mel Gibson's rant anyone?) and although the Supreme Court did not mention the rape in their decision. The only reason her abortion was considered, and why it was not thrown out in the lower courts was because of the racial fears that consumed the society after "integration (never happened)." The feminist movements backed by the corporate media used the quintessential "White" hysteria that always consumes "White" community (lynchings anyone?) over the ACCUSATION of a "Black" man committing a crime. 

THAT IS NOT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE, COMPARTMENTALIZE

Compartmentalization is necessary in order to deal successfully with the media in this society. I think that it is important that people develop methods of compartmentalization, or at the very least, begin to understand that some things need to be placed in their proper context, which I will call its proper compartment.

I must separate this from psychological compartmentalization (although my version of compartmentalization contains high cognitive reasoning and discernment). I don't necessarily know if cognitive dissonance is actually possible but I do believe that when it comes to health, danger, environment, emotions and other things, compartmentalization should not be employed. If you are hungry, eat something, unless fasting. If a lion or a bear is staring you in your face you cannot click your heels three times and wish you were home (sorry self-help gurus). Also, I am borderline obsessive-compulsive and I have to be, as you as well, be wary of extreme typing or categorizing. You cannot deny similarities or true intersection to fit something in a compartment.  Compartmentalization can become very troubling when you are too concerned with placing something in this neat, narrowly defined category or compartment. You cannot deny contradictory evidence or evidence that should place "X" in another compartment. Hopefully, 

I will admit that compartmentalizing can be very dangerous and it easy to become unequivocably narcissistic or slip down the sociopath/psychopath slide ;). It is necessary to understand why you are compartmentalizing something and what it means to the larger puzzle or picture. Sometimes things just exist in their own space and should be judged according to the confines of that space, and if applicable, not judged by the spaces around it. They exist together but differently. 

Before I discuss the necessity of compartmentalization I must first dispel any notion that representation is necessary. How are compartmentalization and representation related? They are related because black people/people, in general, need to be able to not need representation in the media or other outlets and understand that there is a larger societal context that must be addressed. Otherwise, I think that we should dissolve this society. Especially, considering the imminent (already too late) robot revolution where the economic centers of this bastion of capitalists scumbaggery (cities) are useless to the people. Cities are going to become places to be entertained. Cities were created because of industry and industry has left. Representation is how we are continually inundated with the programming that someone who looks like us or identifies as us performing or being presented on media platforms has our interests at heart and not the interests of those who are the reason we have been presented the representation. Robots soon are going to be begging for representation in the media.

REPRESENTATIVE CONCLUSION 

Now I believe in uniting principles and ideologies. I also believe that certain ideologies are being pushed on society for the benefit of very degenerate forces. For example, anyone pushing ideology on children is a suspected pedophile and the media and all its many channels are working hard on indoctrinating children. If you don't have children, there is absolutely no reason you should be involved with children. I won't even embarrass myself by mentioning the state of the educational system in this nation. An education system that cares nothing about churning out intelligent humans. These people have so much fervor to help children but the educational system is in shambles, kids are starving all fucking day in this goddamn country, and you have suspected pedophiles or grand opportunist pushing ideology on children for monetary gain or for easy sexual access. This society has abandoned its children by the way. That is why these scumbags can come in and try to push an ideology on kids because the parents are working for the assholes who are fabricating ideology and political movements. That is why they push technology as progress because they want us to feel that if we have some bullshit ass screen in our hands that we are living in a new world. That is the ideology I deny. The children follow the leads of the adults and should not be dictating anything to society. Society should be filled with parents who only want the health and well being not only of their children but they realize they live in a community filled with other parents and children and we should all do whatever we can to ensure that we are preparing them to take over the world we leave to them. In my estimation, too many people have been trying to take advantage of children instead of nurturing them. That's why generations of children are fucked up! 

Representation is used to indoctrinate children and anyone indoctrinating children with some of these bullshit ass corporate media movements and ideologies are suspected pedophiles and if the rumors or any of the confirmed, despicable shit about Jeffrey Epstein and who he was associated with is true, we are living in a society preying on our children at the highest levels. So these low level wanna be moguls or whatever certainly are doing whatever they can do to ingratiate themselves in that scumbag world.  That is why both parents must be out of the home so that parents don't have to raise children so that these other scumbags in the media and many other avenues, like sports, fashion, film and television, etc... can sexually exploit kids. They are pushing representation on kids so that they can fuck them. 

Our uniting principals should be respect, magnanimity, cleanliness of mind, body, and spirit, safe neighborhoods and potholeless roads, schools that prepare children for life in this country. Our children need to be groomed to be responsible world citizens (we can't even stop littering!!), that can adapt to an ever-changing corporate/work environment (if capitalism is still our way) or entrepreneurship. That is why representation should not matter. In a society as diverse as this one we should be promoting principals. We do not need to see a black mermaid, or Latino sheriff, or transgender teacher. I don't understand what representation means to the overarching principals of a society. 

This society is looking for validation, which is connected to self-esteem from the media because they cannot find it anywhere else because the entire society is telling everyone that they aren't shit. Representation rules trends. Everyone, even if you are an "Influencer" or someone of some status, a musician, CEO, Organization, model, celebrity, or someone of some "Blue Check" garnering stature is still a Follower and is only representing, exalting and perpetuating a corporate structure that is sociopathic, if not sociopathic, amoral. The corporate media does not care about how people or subjects are represented, they only care about the image that makes representation effective programming. 

Representation in the media means programming. Then I further realize that this society was built without any principals but one, White Supremacy. This society has done a fantastic job of cultivating its citizens, since childhood, into mindless drones who live vicariously through celebrity and the media and desperately want to be portrayed similarly to how the dominant society in this nation portrays itself (even white folks, "White" privilege and all are still living through their media representation and not any viable reality). So the way the media perpetuates itself is through representation. The media represents different "identities" as an attempt to promote values that the media has decided, at the behest of the corporate power structure, to be perpetuated in society. The represented "identity" just becomes a puppet for hegemonic powers messaging.

This is why representation does not matter, actually, representation is only used to get people to watch and read dying mediums. Mediums dying because they pushed governmental and corporate propaganda instead of genuine and thoughtful journalism and art that focused on what is best for the people in general. There are principals that all humanity should glom onto and the media in this society is hell-bent on obscuring that, actually, eliminating the connections we have that are so much more tremendous than our differences. But maybe that is programming. The media cannot connect to the public's value system, not only because the public has not asserted our value system, but because the corporate media does not care. Corporate media has representatives that will dictate the value system to the population. The media has no care about the general public's wishes, they are only there to promote party politics and the capitalist agenda, which is to use representation to get us to mindlessly support crooked ideology and to get us to buy everything! (even though we don't have the capital to do so). 

I'll end this with a quote from Stuart Hall's essay, What Is This "Black" in Black Popular Culture?,
Hall is essentially responsible for Cultural Studies in universities worldwide, "I want to end with two thoughts that take the point back to the subject of popular culture. The first is to remind you that popular culture, commodified and stereotyped as it often is, is not at all, as we sometimes think of it, the arena where we find who we really are, the truth of our experience. It is an arena that is profoundly mythic. It is a theater of popular desires, a theatre of popular fantasies. It is where we discover and play with the identifications of ourselves, where we are imagined, where we are represented, not only to the audiences out there who do not get the message but to ourselves for the first time. As Freud said, sex (and representation) mainly takes place in the head."

Stop letting people (in) represent YOUR head.
